Leipziger Straße in Frankfurt am Main is a lively shopping and residential street in the Bockenheim district. Small stores and boutiques are located here as well as the well-known Zalando Outlet and Hunkemöller. Leipziger Strasse is surrounded by a large number of restaurants. Two exciting new locations, Maison de BạN and Fridas Café, have recently been added and are very popular with visitors.

Turkish restaurants on Leipziger Straße

With Kirvem Grill Haus and Melis Kebap&Pizza , there are two Turkish restaurants along Leipziger Straße. Both locations have a beautifully landscaped outdoor area that invites you to watch the hustle and bustle on Leipziger Straße.

In addition to the famous kebab, both restaurants offer many well-known Turkish dishes. Melis Kebap&Pizza has hot and cold starters, pide, gözleme, dürüm, lahmacun, meat dishes, omelettes and some desserts on the menu. In the Kirvem Grill House, a fire-heated charcoal oven not only creates a cozy atmosphere; it is also used to grill delicious dishes such as baked sheep’s cheese with olives. The Kirvem Grill House also offers fish dishes.

Fantastic. Very good prices for portions that definitely fill you up AND taste very good. My tip: Iskender Kebap, which (at least in my experience) not many places can make so tender and tasty. Plus good Turkish music and a pleasant location (despite the street right next door). Ellerinize sağlık!

If you’re in the mood for a quick kebab, gözleme, adana, salad or falafel, Palu Grill Döner is the place for you. The snack bar at Leipziger Str. 32 only offers a few seats – but if you’re looking for a quick dinner or lunch to take away, you won’t be disappointed.

Tibetan specialties at Lhamo Bistro

After a fire in the kitchen, the Lhamo Bistro was closed for a long time. It was initially unclear whether the family-run restaurant on Leipziger Strasse would reopen at all. While the renovation work continued, posters written by the owners’ children provided information about what was happening.

The Tibetan restaurant is now welcoming Frankfurters and their guests back and spoiling them with a manageable selection of Tibetan dishes, which can be ordered with meat or vegetarian options. Because the soups and momos – as the dumplings are called – are freshly prepared, you should bring a little time with you. Incidentally, the location of the Lhamo Bistro was not chosen at random; the Tibet House is in the immediate vicinity. The restaurant is open daily, except Tuesdays. Credit cards are not accepted, but EC card payment is possible.

Eat Vietnamese food on Leipziger Straße

The restaurant “Maison de Ban” opened in April 2019 at Am Weingarten 14, right next to Leipziger Straße. The restaurant aims to delight its guests with a culinary journey from North to South Vietnam. The slightly more expensive dishes come from modern Vietnamese cuisine.

The restaurant offers a business lunch from Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. – selected dishes such as BÚN BÒ NAM BỘ – a lukewarm rice noodle bowl with fried beef, salad, herbs, fried onions and lemongrass – cost just 11.00 euros.

The restaurant is open daily until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.

Thai food at Ban Thai

Bockenheimers can also find tasty Asian dishes at Ban Thai. As soon as they enter, guests are put in the mood for Thai food and drinks by the typical Thai interior with bamboo decor. The restaurant on Leipziger Strasse offers specialties such as “Khaou Phad Sapparot” – fried rice with pineapple, chicken, prawns, peas, raisins and tamarind sauce – or the Panaeng curry – a red curry with coconut milk and finely chopped lime leaves.

In summer, the beer garden in the inner courtyard of Ban Thai, which is not visible from the street, offers a shady spot to linger. The restaurant is open daily from 12:00 to 15:00 and 18:00 to 22:30.

Burger restaurants around Leipziger Straße

If you fancy a burger, “Bullys Burger” in a side street of Leipziger Straße is the place to go. With unusual sauces, handmade fries and lemonades, you are sure to satisfy your hunger and thirst here. All products are sourced from German, regional farmers and traders. The meat for the burgers is organic.

Poke N’ Burger pursues a slightly different concept. In addition to classic burgers, the small restaurant on Leipziger Straße also serves a vegan burger with tofu or falafel. As the name suggests, Poke N’ Burger also serves poke bowls. Guests can assemble their own bowls with fish, chicken or tofu in four steps, before the dishes are garnished with healthy nuts or coconut chips in a fifth step (“happy ending”).

I went to Poke N’ Burger for the first time today and was extremely pleasantly surprised. The extra-large bowl for €10 is well worth the money. You can choose between various fresh and also rarer ingredients (edamame, nori…). The service was very courteous and for Frankfurt prices it was really very good! Small, homely atmosphere, highly recommended.

Joe’s Burger” at Leipziger Straße 1 also offers home-made burgers. In the former Subway premises, you can get various burgers here, e.g. the chili burger with grilled peppers, jalapenos, chili sauce and cheddar cheese. If you come to the burger joint with a big appetite, you can opt for a set menu: For 10.00 to 11.50 euros, you get the burger of your choice as well as fries, sauce and a drink.

Spanish food in Bockenheim

If you have an appetite for tapas or paella, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Galicia . The Spanish restaurant at Friesengasse 3, not far from Leipziger Straße, offers a large selection of tapas. In addition to the patata bravas, which are available for less than 5 euros, there are also unusual variations such as braised chicken stomachs or veal kidneys. Vegetarians also get their money’s worth at Galicia. In summer, the restaurant offers a few tables in front of the building, which is decorated with blue and white mosaic tiles.

The Galicia is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5.00 pm to 1.00 am and on Sundays from 12.00 pm to midnight. Monday is a day off.

Spanish dishes are also available at Andalucia, a few minutes’ walk from Leipziger Straße. If you want to save even more on the already inexpensive tapas, Andalucia is best visited on Wednesdays, tapas day. But beware, the selection of tapas is huge! Various fish (pescados) and meat dishes (carnes) complete the offer. The paella for at least two people is freshly prepared and is available from just under 14.00 euros.

In summer, the restaurant also offers outdoor tables. In the cooler months, it is advisable to make a reservation, as the restaurant is always busy. The Andalucia is open daily, except Sundays, from 18:00-00:00.
