At first glance, Frankfurt may seem like a concrete and glass desert, but hidden among the skyscrapers are true green oases. Whether you just want to unwind, have a picnic with friends or be active – everyone will find their own personal relaxation paradise in Frankfurt’s parks. Here are our top 5 recommendations:

1. Grüneburgpark – the green lung in the Westend

At 29 hectares, Grüneburgpark is one of Frankfurt’s largest parks. The extensive meadows are a wonderful place to unwind, read a book or have a picnic with friends. Shady groups of trees cool you down on hot days. I particularly like the Korean garden in the southern part of the park. With its pavilions, ponds and streams, it is a place of peace and contemplation.

2. Palmengarten – exoticism in the middle of the city

The Palm Garden is an absolute must for plant lovers. There are over 13,000 tropical and subtropical plants to marvel at on 22 hectares. My favorite place is the palm house with its exotic trees up to 18 meters high and the splashing waterfall – a treat for the senses. But the themed gardens such as the rock garden, rose garden and rhododendron garden also invite you to linger.

3. Bethmannpark – Chinese garden as a highlight

This rather small but beautiful city park impresses with its well-tended gardens. The absolute highlight is the Chinese garden, which was designed according to the principles of Feng Shui. With its bridges, pavilions and ponds, it is a place of harmony and is ideal for meditation and yoga. Musicians like to use the “temple” to practice – always an atmospheric experience for visitors.

4. Günthersburgpark – a family paradise in Nordend

If you are out and about with children, Günthersburgpark is just the place for you. In addition to a large playground with climbing facilities, there is also a great water playground for splashing around. But adults also get their money’s worth here – the well-maintained sunbathing lawns and secluded walking paths invite you to relax. It’s just a shame that some of the benches and statues have been defaced with graffiti.

5. Mainufer – a stroll with a skyline view

Admittedly, the banks of the Main are not a park in the traditional sense. But for us, a stroll along the promenade with a view of the Frankfurt skyline is part of the perfect relaxation program. Lick an ice cream and enjoy the view during the day, drink a cold beer or local specialties such as a glass of cider in the evening – dolce vita in Frankfurt. Unfortunately, barbecues are not allowed here.
