Frankfurt am Main is known for its culinary diversity and also offers many delicious options for people with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease. More and more restaurants in the Main metropolis have gluten-free dishes on their menus or even offer a separate gluten-free menu. Whether it’s German, Italian, Asian or African cuisine – there’s something to suit everyone in Frankfurt. Today I would like to introduce you to my favorite gluten-free restaurants in Frankfurt, where you can feast without a care in the world.
Pure indulgence in Sachsenhausen
My absolute favorite is Lúa Cuisine in Schweizer Straße in Sachsenhausen. The Vietnamese restaurant offers a separate gluten-free menu with a large selection of dishes. From summer rolls to curries and wok dishes, it has everything. My favorite dish there is the rice noodle salad bowl with marinated tofu, fresh vegetables and herbs. The atmosphere at Lúa is relaxed and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Just a few doors down is the Lohninger restaurant, which serves upscale Austrian cuisine. Here, too, there is an extra gluten-free menu with classics such as Tafelspitz or Wiener Schnitzel. As a side dish, you can choose between potatoes, rice or gluten-free pasta. The Lohninger is perfect for special occasions such as birthdays or company celebrations. The elegant ambience and attentive service make your visit a special experience.
Pizza and pasta galore
Pizzeria Paolo in Schloßstraße in Bockenheim is highly recommended. You’ll find a large selection of gluten-free pasta and pizza on the menu. My tip: be sure to try the Pizza Rustica with Parma ham, rocket and Parmesan. The crispy base and delicious topping are simply irresistible. Add a glass of red wine and you’ll feel like you’re in Italy.
Gluten-free breakfast and cake
Are you looking for a delicious gluten-free breakfast or cake? Then take a look at Isabella Gluten-free Pâtisserie in the city center. Here you can get gluten-free baked goods such as rolls, bread, quiches and cakes. Everything is made fresh and by hand. My favorite is the chocolate cake – so moist and chocolaty that you won’t even notice it’s gluten-free. The cinnamon buns are also highly recommended.
Another great address is Pia’s Cafébar in Ostend. This small, cosy café specializes entirely in gluten-free food. Here you can enjoy delicious breakfast dishes such as avocado toast, açaí bowls and bagels. The homemade cakes and muffins are also simply heavenly. Add a freshly brewed coffee or tea and your day is off to a perfect start.
Conclusion
As you can see, you don’t have to go without anything in Frankfurt if you eat gluten-free. From pizza and pasta to Vietnamese specialties and sweet treats – the choice is huge. The restaurants I have presented are just a small selection, there are many more great addresses.
My tip: always find out in advance whether the restaurant of your choice offers gluten-free dishes and talk to the staff about your intolerance. That way you can enjoy your meal without any worries. And if you need more inspiration, just take a look at sites like “Find me Gluten Free” or Facebook groups. You’ll find lots more recommendations there and can exchange ideas with other sufferers.
I hope I’ve been able to give you a few tasty suggestions and hope you enjoy your gluten-free feast in Frankfurt! Bon appétit!
