10.10.2024: Gennaro’s on Berger Str. in Nordend
The new restaurant Gennaro’s at Berger Straße 15 marks the return of the well-known Frankfurt restaurateur Gennaro Formoso to the Main metropolis. In the premises of the former Greco, the restaurant offers a two-part concept: the front area serves pizza and paninis from the characteristic mosaic-decorated pizza oven during the day, while the rear area with its chandeliers and stylish interior is reserved for evening service.
The culinary offering combines traditional Italian classics such as spaghetti carbonara with innovative fusion cuisine, including dishes such as tempura prawns and kimchi ravioli.
Formoso, who has more than 35,000 followers on Instagram as @gennaros_einfache_kueche, opens his restaurant from Tuesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 10 pm. With his many years of experience in the Frankfurt restaurant scene and the modern concept, he aims to appeal to both tradition-conscious and experimental guests.
01.10.2024: Maison de Bánh Mì in Bockenheim
Since October 1, 2024, Maison de Bánh Mì in Bockenheim has been enriching Frankfurt’s gastronomy scene with authentic Vietnamese sandwiches. The family business under the management of Thanh Phong Nguyen has set up shop at Weingarten 3, where six different bánh mì variations are offered daily from 11:30 to 18:00. The house specialty is crispy baguettes baked by Nguyen’s mother herself, topped with homemade paté, mayonnaise, pickled vegetables and fresh coriander. The vegetarian option with homemade seitan is also particularly noteworthy. The success of the new restaurant is already evident in the first few days – the rush was so great that the sandwiches were regularly sold out and guests from all over Hesse found their way to Bockenheim. The concept of Nguyen, who previously worked at the Maison de Ban restaurant opposite, seems to be working.
10.09.2024: Café Butter opens in Bockenheim
The new Café Butter will open on September 10, 2024 at Konrad-Broßwitz-Straße 1 in Frankfurt-Bockenheim. The future owner, Sina Eichhorn, previously the head of service at Journal Frankfurt, is realizing her dream of opening her own café. The café will be furnished in a Scandinavian style, with clear aesthetics, warm wooden furniture and chairs in Nordic blue. The culinary concept is particularly exciting: Eichhorn will offer home-baked vegan specialties such as canelés and various cakes. The café will offer space for 50 guests indoors and 20 outdoors, with a focus on regional products and vegetarian dishes. In addition to the café, cultural events such as photo exhibitions, readings and small concerts are also planned for the future. 02.09.2024: Aventura opens in Niddastraße
The Peruvian restaurant Aventura has opened its doors in Frankfurt’s lively station district. Guests can enjoy authentic Peruvian cuisine in a stylish ambience with warm wooden elements and sophisticated lighting. The new opening joins Frankfurt’s diverse gastronomic scene, which offers a wide range of culinary experiences from Asian to South American and African cuisine. 25.09.2024: Korean restaurant Sunbap in Nordend
After two successful seasons as a pop-up in Oeder Weg, the popular Korean restaurant Sunbap has now opened a second permanent location in Friedberger Landstraße. Owner Sun Seo spoils her guests here with vegan, Korean soul food. The concept, which has already proven itself in Oeder Weg, is now being continued at this new location, enriching the diverse gastronomy scene in Frankfurt’s Nordend district with authentic Korean taste experiences.
02.07.2024: Naná Restaurant opens in Grüneburgweg
The newly opened Naná restaurant in the historic Humperdinck House in Frankfurt’s Westend district brings authentic Sicilian cuisine of the highest standard to the metropolis on the Main. Under the direction of head chef Salvo Maggiore, who previously worked at the Michelin-starred restaurant Coria in Catania, and service manager William Vitale, Naná offers a modern interpretation of Sicilian cuisine. Particularly noteworthy are the homemade pasta dishes, which are always freshly prepared à la minute, as well as the two menu options “Mare” and “Terra” for 59.50 euros per person. The concept of “convivial dining” is at the forefront – it’s all about socializing and enjoying food and wine together, with a particular focus on Sicilian wines. The restaurant in the listed building at Grüneburgweg 95 not only impresses with its culinary creations, but also with its modern, inviting ambience and attractive terrace.
02.07.2024: Sonora Taqueria opens in Nordend
Mexican cuisine in Frankfurt is getting an authentic new addition with Sonora Taqueria in Nordend. In the former premises of the Gyoza Factory at Glauburgstraße 9, high-quality tacos are now served in five different variations. The highlight of the house are the tacos de camaron with crispy fried prawns in tempura, served with salsa bandera made from fresh tomatoes and onions, chili mayonnaise and homemade guacamole. In addition to tacos, the restaurant also offers quesadillas, colorful bowls and refreshing margaritas. The taqueria is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 12 noon to 9 pm and Saturdays from 2 pm to 9 pm.
01.06.2024: Kyoto Restaurant at Roßmarkt
The Kyoto Restaurant has opened its doors at Kleiner Hirschgraben 10 in Frankfurt city center, where the vegetarian restaurant VEVAY was previously located. Under the management of gastronomic newcomer The Phong Huynh, the modern restaurant offers an interesting fusion of Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine. Two specialized chefs ensure culinary diversity – one is dedicated exclusively to sushi preparation, while the other is responsible for the hot dishes.
The menu includes classic sushi variations such as nigiri and maki, as well as Vietnamese specialties such as pho soup, homemade spring rolls and spicy curry dishes with homemade sauces. The restaurant is open daily and is ideal for a relaxed lunch or a cozy dinner.
01.05.2024: The Nest opens with an upscale bistro concept
The new restaurant “The Nest” opened its doors at the beginning of May 2024 in the Taunusanlage, between the banking district and the Alte Oper. Under the direction of young managing director Mariah Schäfer, the restaurant is housed in a remarkable modular building, which was conceived by a London interior design office and manufactured in the UK before being transported to its current location at Neue Mainzer Straße 75-77. The concept combines modern French bistro cuisine with international influences in a light-flooded ambience with floor-to-ceiling windows, light wood and earthy tones. The pared-down menu offers French classics such as beef tartare and entrecote as well as seasonal dishes with international spice combinations and vegan options. The restaurant is open Tuesdays to Wednesdays from 18:00 to 22:00 and Thursdays to Saturdays from 18:00 to 23:00, with lunch also available on weekdays from 12:00 to 15:00.
21.03.2024: Japanese-Vietnamese restaurant Tokygon opens in Taunusstraße
The new restaurant Tokygon has opened its doors in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel at Taunusstraße 6, enriching the local gastronomy scene with an innovative Japanese-Vietnamese fusion concept. Covering an impressive 350 square meters, the restaurant features a well-thought-out room layout that includes various areas – from intimate seating niches to traditional Japanese floor seating.
The interior was designed by an architecture firm from Saigon and features authentic elements such as pagoda roofs, bamboo and atmospheric lanterns. The culinary offerings range from traditional sushi and Vietnamese pho soups to creative fusion dishes, with plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. Tokygon, which already has a successful branch in Wiesbaden, offers space for 150 guests and also has a Japanese-inspired garden.
22.04.2024: The waffle at the Bockenheimer Warte
The new restaurant “Die Waffel” opened its doors in April 2024 at the Bockenheimer Warte in Frankfurt and enriches the local gastronomy scene with authentic Afghan cuisine. The restaurant, which is located in a former kebab store in Leipziger Straße, is already the fourth branch after successful openings in Mainz, Wiesbaden and Offenbach.
Despite the misleading name, the restaurant impresses with a varied menu ranging from traditional dishes such as mantu, various rice dishes and samosas to homemade specialty drinks such as saffron lemonade with ginger and cardamom. Particularly noteworthy are the mantu with minced meat filling and the rice dishes with lentil cream and eggplant and paprika topping. The small, albeit spartanly furnished restaurant is already very popular, which is reflected in the high occupancy rate at lunchtime.
01.12.2023 Gutleutviertel Café opens at Frankfurt Central Station
Gutviertel opened its doors in December 2023 at Wiesenhüttenstraße 39, just a few minutes’ walk from Frankfurt Central Station. Under the management of Burak Yesilyurt and the creators of the well-known Yok Yok Eden, the café has a minimalist design with concrete walls, vintage furniture and a striking tiled counter. In addition to high-quality coffee made from Sicilian beans, the café offers homemade cakes, sandwiches and a selected drinks menu. A special feature is the cozy atmosphere with a bookshelf and games corner, where chess games take place regularly. The Gutviertel is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
14.11.2023: flowers, next door
An exciting new opening has been enriching Frankfurt’s Nordend since November 14, 2023: “Blumen, nebenan” at Rotlintstraße 58 is the spatial extension of the Blumen restaurant, which has been successful for ten years. The new bistro concept offers a charming retreat with a combination of sophisticated drinks and selected delicacies in a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Friday from 6 pm and on Saturdays from 2 pm. Under the management of Micha Mayer and his team, guests can enjoy lunch during the day, while the bar offers snacks and a hot dish in the evening.
25.10.2023: Okay Baby at Flemings Eschenheimer Tor
There is an exciting new addition to Frankfurt’s gastronomy scene: “Okay Baby”, a stylish bistro, has opened its doors in the Flemings Selection Hotel at Eschenheimer Tor. The restaurant, which is the result of a collaboration between AMP and Club Michel, welcomes guests for dinner from 6 pm from Thursday to Saturday. The location in the heart of Frankfurt promises an interesting fusion of bistro atmosphere and upscale gastronomy, embedded in the elegant ambience of the Flemings Selection Hotel.
30.08.2022: GUDRUN cooks on the Hanauer Landstr.
The restaurant GUDRUN kocht opened its doors on August 30, 2022 at Hanauer Landstraße 151. The concept focuses on homemade soups, stews and modern bowls in a cozy ambience reminiscent of a 60s home kitchen. The menu offers a balanced mix of vegan, vegetarian and meat-based dishes, including creamy power soups, Arabic vegetable pots and classic dishes such as chili con carne. 22.07.2022: AperiWine opens at the Leipziger trade fair
On July 22, 2022, the Italian restaurant AperiWine enriched the Frankfurt gastronomy scene with its opening at Leipziger Straße 100 in the Bockenheim district. The restaurant quickly established itself as a popular address for Italian cuisine and offers its guests generous opening hours from Monday to Saturday from 6 pm to midnight and on Sundays from 6 pm to 11 pm. With its central location in Bockenheim, AperiWine has become an important destination for lovers of Italian cuisine.
15.09.2020: Da Giovanni opens in Bockenheim
The Italian restaurant “Da Giovanni” has opened its doors in the former premises of Biondo at Basaltstraße 35 in Bockenheim. The restaurant places particular emphasis on authentic Italian cuisine with high-quality, seasonal products. 14.08.2020: Café Heimelig opens in Frankfurt Bockenheim
Café Heimelig opened its doors at Diemelstraße 9 in Frankfurt-Bockenheim on August 14, 2020 and quickly established itself as one of the best cafés in the city. The special concept: in the in-house bakery, real “Backopis and -omis” prepare delicious cakes and tarts according to traditional recipes. The 30-year-old founder Tina Brückmann has created a unique multi-generational café, where the team is made up of people aged between 23 and 78. In addition to classic baked goods, the stylishly furnished corner café with its old wooden tables also offers vegan options and an excellent breakfast menu. The combination of traditional baking craftsmanship and a modern sustainability concept has already been recognized – the café was awarded third place in the Frankfurt Founders’ Prize.
31.07.2020: Restaurant Gundi in Bockenheim closes – coffee bar Auszeit opens
The Turkish restaurant “Gundi” on Leipziger Straße has closed on 31.07.2020 “for private reasons”. The location is already being renovated and a notice indicates that a new owner with a new concept will open “shortly”. The Auszeit coffee bar opens on the premises.
01.07.2020: Sissi and Franz opens in Bockenheim
The former Sausalito premises at Kiesstraße 36 in Frankfurt Bockenheim are coming back to life. The burger chain “Sissi und Franz” is opening, offering vegan and vegetarian burgers in addition to the classic beef and chicken burgers.
