The Kyoto Restaurant Frankfurt: A culinary journey between tradition and fusion

Kyoto Frankfurt

The Kyoto restaurant in Frankfurt’s city center offers an exciting mix of Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine in a modern yet cosy atmosphere. During my visit in October 2024, I was able to see for myself the culinary highlights, but also some of the restaurant’s weaknesses.

Ambience – stylish charm with small compromises

Kyoto impresses with its stylishly furnished rooms, which create a pleasant atmosphere. The wooden furniture gives the restaurant a natural, warm charm and invites you to linger. However, the benches are not particularly comfortable in the long run, which reduces the level of comfort somewhat.

I also found the low-hanging lamps directly above the tables a little annoying, which made it difficult to make eye contact with the person sitting opposite. A little more height would have been desirable here in order to be able to chat undisturbed.

Culinary highlights with room for improvement

Grandiose main course

The absolute highlight of my visit was the COM MANGO-AVOCADO-CURRY-RICE BOWL for €16.90. The rice with yellow curry and coconut milk, garnished with deep-fried tofu, soybeans and pieces of mango and avocado, was a real taste sensation. The fruity note harmonized perfectly with the spicy curry and provided an exotic treat for the palate. A decision that I definitely didn’t regret and that I was completely delighted with.

Drinks selection with room for improvement

There is still room for improvement when it comes to the drinks. The Merlot for €8 was solid, but a little too expensive considering the price. A slightly larger selection in the middle price segment would be desirable here, so that there is something to suit every budget. The soft drinks are also overpriced in my opinion at up to €4 for 0.2l. Kyoto could make some improvements here.

Service – Friendly and attentive with a few glitches

The service at Kyoto was very friendly and attentive throughout. The staff responded to our wishes and created a pleasant atmosphere. However, there was a small mishap with the change at the end, which tarnished the positive impression somewhat. The team should be a little more attentive here to avoid such mistakes.

Conclusion – Asian delights with room for improvement

Kyoto impresses with its Asian fusion dishes, especially the terrific COM MANGO-AVOCADO-CURRY-RICE BOWL. Even if there are still minor weaknesses in the ambience, drinks selection and service, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit. With a little fine-tuning, Kyoto could develop into a real highlight in Frankfurt’s gastronomic scene. I will definitely be back to try more dishes and hope that the restaurant continues to improve.
