Summer, sun, outdoor pool fun: the best outdoor pools in Frankfurt

Freibad Hausen

Summer is finally here and the outdoor pool season in Frankfurt has begun! I love jumping into the cool water on hot days and enjoying the sun on the sunbathing lawn. Luckily, Frankfurt has lots of great outdoor pools to offer. Here are my favorites that you should definitely visit.

Brentanobad – Frankfurt’s largest outdoor pool

With its huge 220 x 50 meter outdoor pool, the Brentanobad in Frankfurt-Rödelheim is the largest outdoor pool in Europe! There really is a place for everyone here. There is a paddling pool and a non-swimmers’ pool for children. The gigantic sunbathing lawn is a great place to play, romp and sunbathe. When you get hungry, you can buy an ice cream or stop off at the snack bar with beer garden. I think the Brentanobad is perfect for a relaxing day out with the whole family.

Stadionbad – action and fun for young and old

My absolute favorite outdoor pool in Frankfurt is the Stadionbad. There’s something for everyone here: a large sunbathing lawn, all kinds of slides, a 10m diving tower for the brave, an adventure pool with a waterfall, wide slides and whirlpools as well as a great children’s playground. Whether young or old, boredom is guaranteed to be a thing of the past here. I think the many different slides are particularly cool. There’s something for every adrenaline junkie.

Hausen outdoor pool – swimming fun into the night

The Hausen outdoor pool has a special treat to offer: For early risers, the pool opens at 6:30 am. The 50-meter lanes are perfect for ambitious swimmers. There is also a diving pool with 1 and 3-meter towers, a non-swimmers’ pool and a paddling pool for the little ones.

The Hausen outdoor pool is a very special highlight among Frankfurt’s swimming pools. Since fall 2021, an air dome has been providing swimming fun even in the cold months. When the weather outside is grimy, swimming fans can swim their lengths under the heated tent roof and enjoy the cool lighting effects.

The air dome is an important interim solution until the new Rebstockbad building is completed in 2026. The additional water areas are particularly important for schools and clubs during the winter months. Thanks to good planning and a great team effort, the 2023/2024 air dome season was even able to start a week earlier than planned and welcome swimming enthusiasts in the fall vacations.

As soon as the temperatures rise in spring, the air dome will be dismantled again and the outdoor pool will start the open-air season. A combined swimmers’ and non-swimmers’ pool, a small slide for the youngest children, a paddling pool and a children’s playground await. You can watch the hustle and bustle from the cozy catering terrace

Eschersheim outdoor pool – the widest slide in Europe

Head to the Eschersheim outdoor pool! The widest slide in Europe awaits you here. Sliding two or three abreast is simply twice as much fun. In addition to the slide paradise, there are many other attractions, such as a water play area, paddling pool, children’s playground, beach volleyball court and table tennis tables. For me, the Eschersheim outdoor pool is a real family pool where children can really let off steam.

Nieder-Eschbach outdoor pool – swimming fun in the countryside

Just outside, in the green north of Frankfurt, lies the Nieder-Eschbach outdoor pool. It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. The pool has a 50-meter swimmer’s pool, a non-swimmer’s pool with a wide water slide and a spacious children’s area with a paddling pool and playground. For me, the Nieder-Eschbach outdoor pool is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and simply switch off.

Silobad Unterliederbach – swimming with industrial charm

The Silobad in Frankfurt-Unterliederbach exudes a very special charm. The striking silo complex, which now houses the changing rooms and slides, is a reminder of the district’s industrial past. But don’t worry, the heated water is crystal clear and invites you to swim, splash and slide. In addition to a swimmer’s pool with diving board, there is also a non-swimmer’s pool, a paddling pool and a playground. I really like the unusual atmosphere of the Silobad.

Riedbad Bergen-Enkheim – cooling off in the countryside

My insider tip for hot summer days is the Riedbad Bergen-Enkheim. Thanks to its location on the outskirts of the city, it is always a few degrees cooler here than in the center. You can swim laps in the 50-metre sports pool in peace and quiet while the kids have fun on the playground, the play area or in the paddling pool. After swimming, I like to relax with a game of beach volleyball or enjoy the beautiful view from the sunbathing lawn.

Getting to the Riedbad from Bornheim

I have an extra tip for all Bornheim residents: The best way to get to Riedbad Bergen-Enkheim from the Bornheim district is to take the U4 subway line. Just get off at the “Schäfflestraße” stop and from there it is only a few minutes’ walk to the entrance of the outdoor pool. By bike, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes from Bornheim, depending on your fitness level. So pack your swimsuit and picnic basket and get into the cool water!

I hope I’ve been able to give you a few ideas for the summer with my overview of Frankfurt’s outdoor pools. Whether you’re looking for action and fun or just want to relax, you’re guaranteed to find the right outdoor pool in Frankfurt. With this in mind, I wish you a great summer with lots of refreshing outdoor pool visits!
